Beachville District Museum is pleased to offer curriculum-connected programming that can be delivered on-site, in your classroom, virtually, or through loaned materials. Grade 4: Pulley Power and Gear Genius
This program explores pulleys and gears as simple machines, their types, principles, and history. Students will build a gear train and pulleys through hands-on activities to understand mechanics, force, and motion while developing practical skills and critical thinking.
Grade 7/8: The Lime Capital: Environmental Impacts and History of Quarrying in Beachville
This program covers Beachville's quarry industry, highlighting limestone use and environmental impacts like deforestation and pollution. Through the “Build Your Own Aquifer” activity, students explore local environmental impacts, develop critical thinking on protection, and connect with local history.
Grade 10-12: Farming Forward: Agrarian Life in South-West Oxford & Zorra in the 1920s
This program invites students to explore 1920s agrarian life in Zorra and Southwest Oxford, highlighting how farming evolved with modern advancements and education. This program features local photos, documents, and artifacts from the museum's collection. Following the presentation, students participate in an interactive farm simulation based on primary sources.
Curriculum-Connected Guided House Tour and/or Grounds Tour
Experience an enriching tour of the Beachville District Museum, which can be tailored to align with various curriculum needs. Delve into topics such as early 20th-century rural Canadian life, natural history, sustainability, sports history, domestic life, agriculture, and much more. Explore our diverse exhibits and gain a deeper understanding of the local heritage in the historic hub of Oxford County. Interactive activities will be included in an education program guided tour.
