Light up The Museum
During the pandemic, when the museums were ordered to close and holiday cheer was more important than ever, the Beachville District Historical Society hosted its first outdoor, holiday event.
We began by installing light displays across our front lawn and invited guests to join us around a campfire and sip hot beverages while listening to carols and waiting for the lights to flicker on for the season. Three years later, we plan to make the displays even more impressive… with your help!
About the Society
Founded in 1974, the Society is a non-profit, charitable organization whose mission is to ensure Beachville, South- west Oxford and Zorra Townships' histories are housed, collected, preserved and promoted through various community events and programs to be understood by and for the enjoyment of ours and future generations.
The Impact of Donations
Every year, the Society spearheads fundraising initiatives that allow it to function as a steward of local-history artifacts, a reliable program provider and a partner in the preservation of the Beachville District Museum's building and grounds. Through recent fundraisers like our 2022 summer BBQ, 50/50 draws, and a Summer Celebration raffle, the Beachville District Historical Society has helped with such projects as sidewalk upgrades, a school-bell restoration and the construction of accessible picnic tables for the grounds. The museum's porch was restored in 2021. The sidewalk upgrades completed in 2022, made the access routes to the museum safer and more accessible. The pathways were widened and a new ramp was formed at the front entrance.
Our partners at Carmeuse Beachville installed an historic kiln shell component from the old quarries to form an eye- catching entry point for the museum site. It is the Society's aim to see other components of the museum's facade improved. Not only does the historic structure that houses our museum benefit from regular maintenance and care, a fresh facade signals to potential visitors that the museum is a welcoming, lively and worthwhile place to explore. The proceeds from Light up the Museum sponsorships will be directed to special projects of this kind.
