Assistant Curator
Beachville District Museum
Beachville, Ontario
Contract Term: March 23, 2026 - December 31, 2026
Compensation: $22–$32 per hour (commensurate with experience and qualifications)
Hours: 35 hours/week (Typical work week is Monday-Friday, with some evening and weekend hours required)
Job Summary
The Beachville District Museum is seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and community-minded professional to join our curatorial team as Assistant Curator. Reporting to the Curator/Manager, the Assistant Curator supports the daily operations of the museum, the stewardship of its collection, and the delivery of engaging programs and events that advance our mission.
This is a dynamic role suited to someone who enjoys balancing collections work, public engagement, administration, and program/event coordination in a small museum environment.
Responsibilities
Support daily museum operations including following opening/closing procedures, welcoming visitors, giving tours, fulfilling research requests, preparing basic financial claims, overseeing volunteers and junior staff as needed, creating promotional materials, maintaining the museum website, and completing routine housekeeping tasks.
Conduct donor meetings, complete intake documentation, register and catalogue artifacts, and assist with collections-related reporting to the Board of Directors.
Research and update interpretive exhibit materials as needed, and develop new interpretive tools to enhance visitor engagement.
Coordinate and deliver school programs, workshops, summer camp activities, and outreach initiatives.
Assist with planning and executing museum events and facility rentals.
Other duties as assigned by the Curator/Manager and/or Board of Directors.
Qualifications & Experience
Post-secondary education in Museum Studies, Public History, Archival Studies, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Written and verbal communication skills to express ideas clearly, and ability adapt communication style to suit different audiences
Experience in collections management and artifact handling practices
Computer skills with the ability to learn and use digital database and software programs; experience with Past Perfect and Google Drive is an asset
Ability to maintain a positive, professional attitude and exhibit strong interpersonal skills
Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and record-keeping skills
Ability to complete basic financial reconciliations and claim submissions
Experience with various social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram
Ability to work independently and collaboratively on a small team
Bookkeeping and financial experience is an asset
