Program Room
On Tuesday, September 10 join University of Western Ontario Professor Emeritus Dr. George Emery in the Beachville District Museum program room at 7 p.m. for his talk on his new book, Blacks in a White Place: Ingersoll Canada West and Ontario, 1850-1921.
Emery explores the lives of Black citizens in the Ingersoll area from 1850 to 1921, shedding light on the reasons behind the population's eventual decline. Learn about the latest research on why Black individuals settled in Ingersoll and the surrounding regions after escaping enslavement in the United States. Historian Emery will also dispel common myths and folklore, offering a clearer account of the experiences of Black residents in Ingersoll.
The talk will be followed by a question period and light refreshments, generously provided by the Historical Society. Admission to this event is free of charge, although donations in support of our programming initiatives are gratefully accepted. No prior registration is required.
