Hands-on Heritage: Butter Churn Picnic

  • Beachville District Museum 584367 Beachville Road Beachville, ON Canada (map)

Join us in celebrating Oxford County’s dairy heritage with our Butter Churn Picnic Experience, set in Oxford County, the Dairy Capital of Canada. During this experience, you’ll receive a guided tour of our historic home; you’ll learn how to make butter while discovering the county's history of dairy and butter production. You’ll crank a 1922 butter churn and use locally crafted wooden tools to mould your butter. Explore photos of historic local creameries and view butter-related artifacts. After your butter-making session, unwind with a curated picnic on our scenic grounds. Spread your freshly churned butter over warm, local bread, and enjoy it alongside local honey, jam, or maple spread.

This experience centres on rural businesses and highlights their distinct value and innovation in regions that are known for their agricultural past. Our commitment to sustainability is reflected in our locally sourced ingredients and a 100% waste-free experience, honouring both the past and a greener future. Featured businesses include Whit Woods Woodworking (Dickson’s Corners), and Sheldon Berries (Lakeside.) From South-West Oxford Township, we are proud to showcase The Great Canadian Honey Company (Sweaburg), Jakeman’s Maple Products (Beachville)The Hot Oven (Verschoyle).
