Harrington’s big picture, a 5½-foot-long photo featuring nearly 500 people, hangs in Harrington Hall. This panoramic photo was taken on Labour Day, 1925, during the “Old Boys and Girls Reunion,” celebrating a proud community after the hardships of the Great War and the Spanish Flu.
Today, as Harrington faces challenges like the removal of Pitt’s Hill by a gravel company, the Harrington & Area Community Association holds onto Harrington’s history and invites everyone with ties to Harrington to help celebrate its centennial in 2025.
Join The Harrington & Area Community Association on the celebration day, with activities from 11 am to 2 pm, leading up to the group photo at 2:30 pm. Explore the historic Harrington Grist Mill, tour the community centre (formerly S.S. #4), visit displays in Harrington Hall, and engage with local history by bringing your heritage items for preservation tips. Enjoy a petting zoo, good food from “The Sunset Shack” food truck, and a scavenger hunt organized by the Coyote Nature School.
At 2:00 pm, pipers from the Ingersoll Pipe Band will call everyone to assemble for the big picture, captured by photographer Doris Weir. A copy will be emailed to all participants who provide an address.
The Harrington & Area Community Association welcomes anyone connected to Harrington, whether born, lived, or just visited here, to join this celebration of our community’s heritage. The Harrington Centennial Homecoming is organized by HACA in collaboration with various local groups.
